Pussy Hat Project

This post is also available in : French

Women’s right and security has been more and more endangered lately, and with Donal Trump being elected as president of the USA, there is a lot for american women to be worried about.

A huge Women’s March is planned in Washingtong DC on January 21st 2017 in that concern.

Krista Suh and Jayna Zweiman have created the PUSSY HAT PROJECT for this event and call the knitting community to join in.

Their mission ? Make a unique visual effect by having as much participants as possible, wear a pink pussy hat.

Because in January, weather is so cold in DC that wearing a hat is absolutely required, but also because knitting hats can be both a way to express yourself, but also for those who cannot make it to the event, to still be part of it and give hats for participants, and/or wear their pussy hat as a statement to join, even if far away, the cause.

Please check Pussy Hat Project website for more details about this

Free patterns are available on their websites here : https://www.pussyhatproject.com/knit/

Available also for crochet, or  sewing.

(and I’ve translated the knitting one in French, on the French version of this post) 😉

Let’s face if : in France too, when you watch the news, you can feel that women’s right and safety are febrile, and with French elections coming this Spring, there is definitely something to worry about.

Rape culture, sexism, and abortion rights being more and more denied, I really feel like I need to make a statement too, and let people know that I’ll be nearby, ready to hit the street to protest in case they try to lower our rights and power. So I’ll keep my pussy hat nearby my ears.

I love this project, I love this idea and I really feel it’s a very important cause to stand for.

Since I have plenty of american friends, among them, some planning to join the march in DC, I’ve decided to knit several pussy hat for them, and one for me.

So far, I’ve used my  Chunky Alpaga, color “Mauve” ,  and also a pink skein I’ve fund in my stash bought somewhere in Oregon the last time I traveled there. I’ve lost the yarntag though, so don’t know what brand it is.

These pussy hats are easy to knit, it took me less than a day (let’s say about 5hours of knitting)

It doesn’t look very pretty when it’s done being knitted, but it’s because the surprise pussy ears happens once you wear it 🙂

Also, I like my shadow when I’m wearing it 🙂 🙂 🙂
